What is National Recovery Month?

What is National Recovery Month?

Today, there are over 20 million United States citizens who are in recovery from a substance use disorder or addiction. Some of these people are children, parents, sisters, brothers, neighbors, friends and co-workers. Almost everyone either knows someone that is struggling with an addiction or who is in recovery. National Recovery Month is meant to celebrate those who are on their way through recovery or who are ready to take this leap into recovery. Even if you are still living an addictive lifestyle or you know someone that is, there is hope for you.

Here at Desert Rose Recovery Center, we have so many treatments that can help you to start and continue a life of recovery. We are committed to helping anyone get into recovery – no matter your age, background or experiences. We also want to help prevent substance abuse by increasing awareness surrounding addiction and recovery.

Becoming Stronger as a Nation

With so many people struggling with an addiction to alcohol and/or drugs, our nation is feeling defeated. Between the opioid epidemic, millions of overdoses and watching our loved ones lose their lives to this disease, it is hitting everyone hard.

However, the more people who we can get to enter a detox and treatment program, the stronger and healthier our nation can become. Our team knows people are resilient and we can bounce back together from addiction, from despair and from heartbreak.

Recovery is demanding and lifelong, but there is happiness, joy and success in recovery that isn’t found in an addictive lifestyle. For many who have an untreated addiction, it can be tough to overcome obstacles and create the lifestyle they dream of having. If this is the case for you, don’t hesitate any longer in getting addiction treatment. Why not get the help you need this month, September, for National Recovery Month? What better time to celebrate your recovery?

By getting into recovery, you can get help with:

  • Sobriety
  • Relapse prevention
  • Finding a job
  • Making amends
  • Repairing relationships
  • Building your self-confidence
  • Creating the lifestyle you want and deserve
  • Creating and working on boundary-setting
  • Setting short and long-term goals for yourself
  • Dealing with legal issues related to your addiction

Here at Desert Rose, we can help you with everything related to addiction recovery. Whether you get help now during National Recovery Month or any other time, our team will be ready to assist you in the recovery process.

Ways National Recovery Month Can Help Communities

National Recovery Month was created to bring awareness about addiction and recovery, encourage people to overcome an addictive lifestyle and celebrate those who are in recovery from addiction.

There are numerous ways that National Recovery Month can help communities and individuals such as:

  • Bringing awareness to recovery meetings
  • Educating our youth about substance abuse prevention and addiction treatment options
  • Expanding access to recovery programs
  • Encouraging people to go through recovery in sober living communities
  • Asking people to intervene when they see someone struggling with addiction
  • Calling 9-1-1 when you see someone who is overdosing on drugs (it could be the wake-up call they need to get into a treatment program and it could very well save their life, as well)

September is the month, every year from here on out that we want to celebrate recovery from addiction. There are far too many people who have dealt with loved ones who are addicted to alcohol and/or drugs or who have an addiction themselves. Most people who do have an addiction feel they are alone and don’t really know where to turn. However, our Desert Rose Recovery Center team is here to tell you, that there is help available. You can start by calling our team today.

If you are already in recovery, it is time to celebrate your progress up to this point, as well. Whether you just got sober recently, are going through the detox process, attend a treatment program or are in the aftercare stage of recovery, you deserve recognition and praise for all the hard work you have and are putting into your recovery

People to Thank During National Recovery Month

There are thousands and thousands of mental health and addiction recovery professionals who are putting effort into spreading awareness about addictive lifestyles, preventing substance abuse disorders and going through recovery. There are also individuals such as family members who are affected by addiction who are spreading the word about recovery, as well.

National Recovery Month

All these people are working hard and tirelessly to ensure that even one life can be saved from an addiction or overdose. So, take the time to thank these people during National Recovery Month:

  • Any family members or friends who are trying to help people get or stay in recovery
  • The recovering addicts who are working hard to stay clean and sober and in recovery
  • Addiction recovery peer support professionals
  • Counselors and therapists
  • First responders
  • Addiction rehab specialists
  • Doctors and nurses
  • Anyone else you know who is trying to help people to develop or stay in a recovering lifestyle

Everyone deserves a life of happiness, health and sobriety. Take the time today to thank even one person who is spending their time and energy trying to help people achieve a life of recovery – happiness, health and sobriety.

Goals of Recovery Month

Why did the president put National Recover Month into place? Well, there are numerous reasons, but the primary one being that we all need to work together to spread awareness about addiction, celebrate recovery and build a support team worldwide for those who struggle with addiction.

From this point onward, September should be about coming together, celebrating those who work hard to get and stay in recovery and offering hope to everyone who is struggling with an addiction to alcohol or drugs. It should also be about helping those who are dealing with a co-occurring disorder (mental health disorder and addiction). These people also need to know there is hope for a greater, substance-free future for them.

National Recovery Month is all about reinforcing positive messages about the treatment opportunities out there today. It is about spreading awareness about:

  • Overall health
  • Substance-free living
  • Relapse prevent
  • Effective treatment options
  • Hope that recovery is possible
  • Remind people there are others who want to help them in recovery
  • Building great, effective support networks
  • Encouraging people to get clean and sober
  • Teaching people that recovery is a lifelong, worthwhile process

Now that you know more about these goals, don’t wait any longer to get the help that you or a loved one needs to overcome addiction or mental health disorders.
